"They're shards of a god, Theo." The Rocket Admin lit a cigarette, puffing away on his nicotine stick as he gave the underboss a look. "Very, very small pieces. How else do you extract iotas of elemental energy and condense them into slate?"

Truthfully, there's a dozen different ways to interpret the plates. They were artifacts, true, but they unnerved the Rocket Admin in a way few things did.

"They've appeared too suddenly. They showed up en masse after Petalburg was won, when Regirock upended the city. Yet if they were under the city, they would've been found during construction projects."

Gods were common nuisances. They were also very powerful. Yet the only way to defeat one was to strip it of its divinity, which meant believing that they could die to begin with. Using Eternatus as an example, Howard needed to believe it was nothing more than a killable entity.

If he didn't, then what was the point of everything he had done up until this point?

"In the same way that Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina are, I'd suppose. Yes. No. Maybe?" Howard shrugged at him. "If you believe they're from here, then these plates are. If you don't, then they're not."

Smoke emerges from his mouth, tinted faintly red.

"Are our creator gods from this world? Does their making of this world mean they're from here?"

He's serious, but Theo was as well. If the divine were chasing plates, Howard hadn't been made aware. Katherine's mad chase wasn't important to Howard, except for her connection to Regirock. Yet the automaton had chosen Howard over her, and thus she was nothing more than a distant memory.

She deserved remembrance, but little more.

"Assuming that they're pieces of a god, why wouldn't the divine wish to recover the corpses of their brethren? We bury our dead. Perhaps they do as well."

If gods and human beings were that alike, Howard feared for mankind.

"I'm admittedly conflicted. My brain says to destroy them, but my heart says to keep them be. They're relics, after all. What sort of archaeologist destroys his discovery?"
